Dalsnibba Cycle Race
(0-4500 feet above sea level)

Dalsnibba Cycle Race is a cross-country race being held for the 7th time. The start is at the Geiranger Fjord and finish on Mount Dalsnibba, 1500 metres above sea level. The race is being arranged by Eidsdal Sport Association.


Track Description
The race starts at the Geiranger fjord near the ferry in the centre of Geiranger. After approx. 4 km with a slope of (1:12) up to the Flydalsjuvet gorge, the track flattens out and goes on gravel road though "Knuten". This is a 270 degree bend constructed in order to overcome a large crag.

At Oplenskedal, there is further an steady climb of approx 1:12 up Blåfjellet after approx. 14 km. From here, the terrain is more or less flat for the next 2 km until reaching Lake Djupvatnet. From here, the ascent to Mount Dalsnibba starts. This last bit is 5 km on gravel road, and has a climb of 1:8. The view from the upper part of this road is no less than spectacular! In total, the track has 35 180-degree bends, and a height difference of 1500 meters (4500 feet).

Type of bicycle
You can use the bike you like. If you use a bike with larger wheel diameter than 26" you have to compete in the road bike class. Helmet usage is mandatory.

Classes
Off-road bikes with a wheel diameter up to and including 26 inches: men and women from 16-19 years, 20-24 years, 25-29 years, 30-39 years, 40-44 years, 45-49 years and so on.

Racer-, hybrid- and all other bikes: men and women class.

Prizes
The prizegiving ceremony takes place at approx. 17.00 in the start ares.

There will be payed a bonus for new track record, NOK 5000,- for both men and women. In the class for racer bikes, the track record bonus will be payed for men only, and this bonus is NOK 2500,-.

All contestants completing receive a medal. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in each class, and maximum for 1/3rd of the contestants in the class. For racing bikes: 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize for men and women, and maximum for 1/3rd of the contestants.

Drawing of a grand prize among all the bike contestants, and if you register no later than June 15th, you are also included in the drawing for gift prizes. The gift prize winners will be listed in the starting area, and winners can pick up their prize after the race.

Registration
Registration can be made online or by telephone. Up until June 9th the subscription fee is NOK 200,- and after that the fee is NOK 300,-. Registrations before June 15th, will also be included in the drawing of nice gift prizes. If you register online and state your e-mail adress, you will receice an e-mail as a confirmation of your registration. We offer our foreign competitors to pay the fee cash when picking up their bib (start numbers). Deadline for changing your registration (e.g. between road bike and off-road class) is June 15th.

Contestants not holding a licence from the Norwegian Cycling Federation (NCF) must purchase a single race licence of NOK 125,-.

Practical information
  • Pick-up of bib number (start number): Friday June 16th at 19.00 - 21.00 and Saturday from 09.30 at the start area (very close to the ferry pier/petrol station).
  • Start at the Fjord1-garage near the ferry at 12.30.
  • Subscription fee: NOK 200,- until June 9th and NOK 300,- after this date.
  • Transport: Buses from Mount Dalsnibba back to the start area after finish, including transport of bikes. Extra sweat suits/clothes for after finish can be transported to Mount Dalsnibba by a bus departing from the start area just before start.
  • Wardrobe/shower: Geiranger Skule (Geiranger School).
  • Medic: Emergency service is available along the track and after finish.
